About Cocaine Addiction

The formal name for Cocaine addiction is Cocaine use disorder. Cocaine is a highly addictive stimulant drug. Unfortunately, Cocaine is normalized in many spaces as a party drug, and the harm it can do is often overlooked. Statistics on Cocaine use from NIDA indicate that:

  • In 2021, roughly 24,486 US citizens died from overdoses involving Cocaine.
  • In 2021, around 4.1 million US citizens met the criteria for a Cocaine use disorder in the past year.

Knowing the signs and symptoms of Cocaine addiction can help you identify it in yourself or someone else. Understanding that you have a problem is often the first step to getting help, whether that means contacting a Cocaine addiction treatment center or otherwise reaching out for help.

What Causes Cocaine Addiction?

Multiple factors can influence the development of Cocaine addiction and other substance use disorders. Risk factors for Cocaine addiction may include but aren’t limited to the following.

  • Personal history. If you misuse or have an addiction to other drugs, you may have a higher risk of Cocaine addiction.
  • Family history. People with an immediate family member who has or has had a substance use disorder are at a higher risk of experiencing one themselves.
  • Other health conditions. Untreated mental health conditions (e.g., Bipolar disorder) can put someone at a higher risk of addiction.
  • Social factors. If you’re around others who use or are addicted to Cocaine, you may be more likely to experience Cocaine addiction.
  • Personality. Some personality traits have been associated with Cocaine addiction in research.

It’s never too late or too soon to reach out for help. Finding a Cocaine drug rehab center that meets your needs can help you overcome addiction and rebuild your life no matter where you start.

Most Effective Cocaine
Addiction Treatments

In addiction treatment spaces, we understand the value of certain practices. The most effective Cocaine addiction treatments will help you address any relevant underlying concerns, such as other mental health conditions, provide a range of therapies, such as individual and group therapy, and help you find coping skills and recreation activities you enjoy. At a Cocaine addiction treatment center, you’ll work with staff to set goals and create a relapse prevention plan to promote lasting recovery. The following levels of care are available at most treatment facilities.

Residential inpatient

Residential inpatient treatment can be ideal because it provides 24/7 supervision and support. When a client attends residential treatment, they eat, sleep, and live at the treatment facility for the duration of their care. It allows you to focus on your recovery in a supportive environment, attend multiple therapies (often, individual group, and family therapy), engage in reaction activities, and access care from a full range of treatment staff. Many people step down to outpatient care after residential inpatient to help them transition into life outside of a treatment center, though not always.

Outpatient

Outpatient treatment allows clients to sleep at home or otherwise outside of their treatment facility while getting care throughout the week. Like inpatient or partial hospitalization programs, individuals in an outpatient Cocaine substance abuse program will typically work with a range of different treatment professionals and will follow a schedule of activities like group and individual therapy. The time commitment for outpatient treatment is often less than twenty hours per week, not including transit time to your treatment center.

Partial hospitalization

Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are designed to give clients a level of care higher than outpatient but lower than residential inpatient. Often, PHP requires a time commitment of around twenty or more hours per week, not including transit time to your treatment center.

Dual diagnosis

The term “dual diagnosis” is used when individuals live with a substance use disorder and one or more additional mental health conditions. Dual-diagnosis treatment can occur in residential inpatient, PHP, or outpatient settings. When someone enters a dual diagnosis treatment program, they work with professionals to address both substance abuse and the other mental health concerns they face to promote lasting recovery and holistic well-being.

Detox

People often attend detox before entering residential inpatient, PHP, or outpatient services. You can also engage in medical detox without plans to attend a treatment program. Medical detox provides the opportunity to detox from substances safely in a supportive medical environment. Discontinuing the use of substances can be uncomfortable and dangerous. At times, the withdrawal process can also be what keeps someone in the cycle of Cocaine addiction. Accordingly, medical detox is highly valuable to many clients.
