Symptoms of Addiction

When someone is experiencing addiction, they can’t stop using the substance on their own. They may display a lack of self-control, and their desire for the substance continues to increase over time. It’s common for someone in active addiction to be dismissive about the effects of their addiction and the problems it creates for them and the people who love them.

The symptoms of addiction are usually grouped into four categories—social, behavioral, health, and personality-related symptoms.

More specifically, symptoms of addiction can include:

  • Losing interest in other hobbies or obligations, including school, family, or work.
  • Disregarding the harm of substance use.
  • Denying a problem exists.
  • Changes in behavior, such as engaging in criminal activities when under the influence or obtaining more of the substance.
  • Physical signs include sudden changes in weight, insomnia, slurred speech, or changing sleep patterns.
  • Withdrawal symptoms when cutting down or attempting to stop using the substance.

Addiction Treatment in Connecticut: Our Services

Centric Behavioral Health’s treatment facilities in Connecticut aim to support a client’s full spectrum of mental health needs. Here are the services you will see when you look into what we treat at any of our treatment locations.

Drug and Alcohol Addiction

Our services are an excellent option if you are looking for drug rehab in Connecticut. Using a holistic (meaning whole-person) approach, we treat people with various substance use disorders. Often, substance use disorders are affected by multiple factors in a person’s life, such as genetics, environment, and trauma. We will teach you coping tools, how to navigate cravings, and other important skills to help you overcome addiction and recover.

Mental Health

Mental health conditions include but aren’t limited to anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and related disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and PTSD. About one in five people experience a mental health condition in the US, so you are not alone if this is the case for you. Mental health treatment provides coping skills and helps you get to a place where you can manage your condition(s) more effectively.

Dual Diagnosis

Centric Behavioral Health’s facilities are ideal for a person seeking dual diagnosis treatment in Connecticut. “Dual diagnosis” is a term used to describe the presence of a substance use disorder and at least one other mental health diagnosis. Dual diagnosis treatment refers to treatment that addresses both substance abuse and other mental health conditions a client might live with, such as an anxiety disorder or mood disorder. Any of our levels of care take in clients who need dual diagnosis services.

The Continuum of Care Approach

Levels of Care

Speaking of levels of care, what can you expect in each of the most common levels of care used in substance abuse treatment in Connecticut? If you attend a Connecticut drug and alcohol rehab center through Centric Behavioral Health, you may opt for any of the following levels of care. Each level of care is known to help people overcome addiction, but the right fit may depend on your needs.

Residential inpatient treatment can be ideal for those facing substance abuse because it provides 24/7 supervision and support. When a client attends residential inpatient treatment for substance abuse or mental health, they eat, sleep, and live at the treatment facility for the duration of their care. Residential inpatient allows you to focus on your recovery in a supportive environment, attend multiple therapies (such as individual and group therapy), engage in reaction activities, and get intensive care from a complete range of treatment staff. Many people wonder how long a residential inpatient stay will last. The answer differs for everyone, but the majority of our clients stay for thirty to ninety days before discharging or moving down to a lower level of care.

Detoxification can be but is not always a precursor to other treatments. Detoxification programs at treatment facilities like our Connecticut drug and alcohol rehab centers are equipped to help clients stop using drugs in a safe, supportive medical environment. Getting off of drugs and alcohol can be uncomfortable or even dangerous. With care from staff, withdrawals are easier and clients can stabilize with less risk. Detoxification programs are sometimes also called medical detoxification or detox.

The outpatient programs at a Connecticut drug and alcohol rehab center most commonly act as a step-down form of care for clients who have finished a program (such as a residential inpatient program) that offers a higher level of care. It is ideal for helping you stay in touch with treatment staff and get continuous care while integrating back into daily life.

Our intensive outpatient programs are ideal for those who need flexible care from a Connecticut drug and alcohol rehab center. We provide day and night options for clients so that you can get the help you need in a way that works for your schedule. Like any other outpatient program, intensive outpatient (IOP) means that you will live outside of your treatment program for the duration of care.

Partial hospitalization programs are similar to outpatient programs in that they do not require you to live at a treatment facility as residential inpatient programs do. However, the structure and treatment schedule seen in our partial hospitalization programs (PHP) is nearly identical to what you’d see in residential inpatients. PHP offers a higher level of care and a more substantial time commitment than other outpatient programs. For example, our partial hospitalization programs typically require that clients attend treatment six to eight hours per day, five days per week.

Supportive housing is another term used for sober living. Often, clients who use our supportive housing services are in one of our outpatient programs. This means that, while you aren’t in a residential inpatient setting and will not receive the level of supervision one would in a residential program, you are able to access housing that is free of drugs and alcohol near the treatment facility where you attend outpatient care. This can make commuting to your outpatient program and creating a supportive, healthy living environment for yourself easier during initial recovery.

Aftercare programs are created to help people continue to get support and stay free of drugs and alcohol after treatment. Continued therapy, recovery groups, and alumni groups are often a part of a person’s aftercare plan.

Centric Behavioral Health offers all levels of care for people seeking substance abuse treatment, beginning with medical detox programs.
