Who Benefits From Drug Rehab for Methadone Addiction?
A person who is addicted to or misuses Methadone may benefit from attending a Methadone drug rehab center for inpatient, outpatient, or other levels of care. Understanding the signs and symptoms of Methadone addiction can help you identify a problem in yourself or someone you know.
Signs
When someone in your life uses Methadone, you may notice changes in their behavior. Here are some signs to look out for.
- Stealing, lying, forging prescriptions, "doctor shopping" (seeing multiple doctors for multiple prescriptions) or engaging in other illegal means to obtain more Methadone
- Using larger amounts of Methadone than intended or taking Methadone for a longer time period than intended
- Trouble fulfilling responsibilities in important areas of life, such as at work, school, or home due to Methadone use
- Spending a large portion of time obtaining, using, or recovering from the effects of Methadone
- Experiencing withdrawal symptoms or taking Methadone to relieve or avoid symptoms of withdrawal
- Needing higher amounts of Methadone than before to achieve desired effects
- Continuing to use Methadone despite problems in interpersonal relationships
- Continuing to use Methadone despite negative physical or mental health effects
- Giving up or reducing activities one usually enjoys due to Methadone use
- Using Methadone in dangerous situations (e.g., when driving)
- Cravings or strong urges to use Methadone
- An uptick in secretive behavior
Some but not all people with Methadone addiction run into problems such as legal issues, job loss, and other consequences. Methadone abuse can also be devastating for one's health and can come alongside a range of physical and mental symptoms.
Symptoms
Everyone experiences symptoms of Methadone use differently. Common physical and mental symptoms of Methadone use include but aren't limited to the following.
- Impaired balance or coordination problems
- Nausea, vomiting, and GI distress
- Changes in sleep patterns
- Lightheadedness or dizziness
- Memory loss or forgetfulness
- Mood swings
- Constipation
- Overdose
- Fatigue
Overdose is a major risk of misusing Methadone. Convulsions, coma, shallow breathing, blue-tinted skin, and death may occur as the result of a Methadone overdose. The risk of serious adverse consequences increases when Methadone is taken alongside other drugs, including alcohol.

Methadone Substance Abuse Program Types
To know what to expect in drug rehab for Methadone, it is crucial to understand what the different levels of care that can be used to treat Methadone addiction entail. At a Methadone addiction treatment center, you may encounter inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, and other programs. Most often, you can expect to work with a therapist and attend groups of some kind. The best or most effective treatment will depend on a person’s needs and where they’re at in their recovery journey. Here are some common treatments used for Methadone addiction and their features.
Residential inpatient
Residential inpatient programs require that clients live at their treatment facility for the duration of the program. Residential inpatient allows you to focus on your recovery in a supportive environment, attend multiple therapies (e.g., individual, group, and family therapy) weekly, engage in reaction activities, and get intensive care from a complete range of treatment staff. Residential inpatient treatment can be ideal for those facing substance abuse because it provides 24/7 supervision and support. In an ideal residential inpatient program, you will create a relapse prevention and aftercare plan with your team to set you up for success post-treatment.
Outpatient
The main difference between residential inpatient and outpatient treatment is that clients live outside of their treatment facility when receiving outpatient care. Rather than live at your treatment facility, you usually attend treatment three to five days per week. Our outpatient programs allow day and night options to make treatment viable for your or your loved one's schedule. Many people step down to outpatient care after residential inpatient to help them transition into life outside of a treatment center, though some people choose to start with an outpatient or intensive outpatient program.
Partial hospitalization
Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for Methadone addiction and other substance use disorders are similar to other outpatient programs in the sense that they allow you to sleep and live outside of your treatment facility. However, PHP provides a higher level of support than standard outpatient care and usually requires a time commitment of around twenty hours or more per week. Our partial hospitalization programs offer extensive support, requiring clients to attend care five days per week for six to eight hours per day.
Dual diagnosis
Dual diagnosis is a term used to indicate the presence of any substance use disorder and at least one other mental health diagnosis. It is very common for people with a substance use disorder to live with at least one additional mental health disorder, such as an anxiety disorder, personality disorder, or a mood disorder like depression. Dual diagnosis treatment works to address both of these concerns at once and is life-changing for many clients. Dual diagnosis treatment plans can be applied to residential inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization programs.
programs are invented to help a person stop using drugs and alcohol safely with medical staff present. Since getting off of Opioid drugs like Methadone can be uncomfortable and dangerous, attending a detoxification program can be valuable or necessary.
